The wells that Trailblazer Foundation installs provides villagers with enough water to use for irrigation of vegetables and fruits during the dry season, or year-round, thereby reducing the effects of drought. Although many people we are working with now have access to water, education and vocational training opportunities, their food supply remains tenuous, and they often subsist for several months of the year on food with inadequate nutritional value.
Seug Sot, in Pongro village, grew 150 kilograms of eggplant in 2.5 months with the use of his new drip irrigation system. When he sold this single produce at the local market he made nearly $50 USD, which in his area is about 3 month´s wages.
Our drip irrigation systems [a product from International Development Enterprises - IDE] are a low tech example of appropriate technology for the subsistence farmer, which increases crop yields while conserving water usage. Drip irrigation kits cost $45 USD for a system that covers 300 square meters, and $55 USD for a system that covers 500 square meters.
