150 Fingerlings is sufficient to stock an average village pond.
50 Fingerlings per 1$ USD
The Trailblazer Foundation has closely monitored the Sras Village fish ponds since 2006.
The 450 fingerlings initially donated were enough to stock three ponds like the one at right.
The fish and the fish ponds have thrived and a fourth pond has now been created.
Fish farming is an effective low cost way of supplementing food shortfalls during the dry season, and a popular way of turning a profit the rest of the year.
On 8 July 2006, The Sras Village Agriculture Committee selected three villagers to begin developing a sustainable fish farming program.
The Trailblazer Foundation assisted, donating funds for the initial stock [450 fingerlings] and helping to organize and implement a sustainable program and provide instruction in sustainable fish farming techniques and maintenance.
