On August 18th, the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia signed an MOU declaring Trailblazer Foundation an official Cambodian NGO, "Trailblazer Cambodia." Our current Project Manager, Rattana is the Director of this new Cambodian non-government organization. This will give Trailblazer a permanent residence in Cambodia so we can continue our work here in the years to come.
Trailblazers have installed over 600 water filters in the entire region to date!! About 100 of those filters are at schools. Our new water project director, Brian Hurd, is working with our board of directors to build a water-testing facility at our work site in Siem Reap. This way we can test the water from the water filters regularly to insure families maintain a clean water source.
Brian is currently finishing testing the water filters installed in 2007 for E-coli, aresenic, and turbidity. A local testing facility would provide the equipment to test for more complex pathogens. Upon completion, we will post the lab results on the Web site.
Ta Tav Primary School is slated to break ground on January 1st, 2009. Thank you to the British School of Beijing and the Cambodian Landmine Museum Relief Fund (CLMMRF) for providing the partial funding, along with other donations for the 6-classroom building.
Sras Primary School is complete! There are now approximately 365 students. When we started in Sras in 2005, only 18 of the 500 children had attended school! Playground equipment has been proposed, and may be installed at a later date as Trailblazer plans to keep their rapport with the village.
