Trailblazer works with village leadership to establish or enhance a village committee structure. These leaders ultimately manage the sustainability of projects without the need for ongoing international aid. We work with villages to address first, their basic need: water. Once villagers have a sufficient source of water and clean drinking water they can begin to focus on ways to improve their livelihood and are motivated to achieve more.

Although Trailblazer may be the impetus for change, villagers must contribute and be committed to the success of their own development. Therefore, villagers are required and contract to contribute a small fee in order to receive any support Trailblazer provides. However, these fees do not come back to Trailblazer they go into a village fund. It is villager money, used by the villagers and managed by the village finance committee. No international aid is included in these village funds.

At the end of 2011 there were 12 villages running successful Village Funds with 130 loans, 85 to females, for a total amount credited of $5,387 USD and $506.43 generated in interest.
