Cambodia is a country of 14,000,000 with over 9,000,000 cases of diarrheal disease, estimated to be costing the nation $448 million a year. One of the easiest ways to combat poverty and disease is to provide access to clean water sources. Access to safe drinking water is the foundation for the issues of health, education, food, livelihood, and gender equalization. In 2011 alone, we provided 391 bio-sand water filters to rural families, bringing water and hope of a better life, to nearly 6,000 people.

Sok Lon is a rice farmer who lives in a palm house in Pongro village, Prasat Bakong district. He helps support 3 family units of 14 total people: 9 males; 5 females. Lon would be considered a wealthier villager because he owns 2 cows and a plow engine, and has 1 ton of rice in storage. However, the families used to get their water from a traditional pit well, which is a deep hole in the ground, and suffered from diarrhea every two weeks. Lon´s family received a Trailblazer bio-sand water filter. Now women in the family spend less time caring for the sick, and as a result have more time to pursue economic sustainability through small business or gardening. Their children are healthier and have more time for education.

With a $60 USD gift you can create a ripple effect of independence and development - a lasting legacy. You can create stories like Lon´s.
